Tuesday, 9 May 2017PromotionalJohn HilliardCAPB President and Leading Tip

It is with great regret that we announce the passing of CAPB President (and former Lead Tip) John Hilliard.

Hilliard, John Earle Nicholson, died on 8 May, aged 73. John's family would like to thank everyone at Ward 72 at Auckland City Hospital and Mercy Hospice for taking such good care of him.

Loved husband of Anne, father and father-in-law of Chris and Sarah, and Andrew and Charlotte, and grandfather to Rose, Tessa, Ellen, and Astrid.

John's funeral was held at St Mary's in Holy Trinity, Parnell, on Thursday 11 May.

Over 50 pipers and drummers, from across New Zealand, joined together to perform in front of friends and family attending the service, and commemorate one of John's great passions - Pipe band music.

John will be dearly missed.

You are welcome to leave a message on John's GUEST BOOK

Wednesday, 30 November 2016Promotional2017 NZ Pipe Band ChampionshipsGive a Little

The City of Auckland Pipe Band are raising funds for our travel to (& accommodation in) Nelson for the 2017 NZ Pipe Band Championships.

The City of Auckland Pipe band has a long and proud history within the New Zealand Pipe Band community. First formed in 1942 from the old Auckland Pipe Band (1925), the Band entered the contest scene in 1947. The first National Contest was held in New Plymouth in 1949, where the Band finished fourth in the B grade division (A grade being the highest). The following year, at the National Contest in Auckland, they were 2nd in B Grade, beaten by only half a point. The 2017 NZ Pipe Band Championships sees us competing in Grade THREE. CAPB is a self funded, community based pipe band. All funds are raised from performances played, festival grants, membership fees, tuition and fundraising events. We perform at many community events throughout the year, including the: Auckland Domain ANZAC Dawn Service / Newmarket ANZAC Day Parade / Henderson ANZAC Day Parade / Farmers Santa Parade / North Shore Tartan Day Tattoo / St Patrick's Day Parade.
